Q: Mattman, what have you been doing during your morning routine so far in 2023? How do you spend your time?
A: Duuuuuude, I live to wake up and experience dawn! It is my favorite time of day. DAWN! I love this question too! I have a very regular routine I follow on weekdays(Monday through Friday). I wake up at 5:00 AM and have to let our dogs go potty out back. While they do their thing, I drink a tall glass of cold water and boil up some water in my tea kettle. This turns up the heat, literally! While that water is getting ready to whistle, I do as many chores as I can. I get about nine or ten minutes to clean the kitchen, wipe the counters down, bring the dogs back in, make sure the dogs’ crates are clean and they have food, make sure I have laundry folded and put away, and the list goes on! I tend to first focus on chores that are visible to my wife. Once the water boils, it’s time to make my coffee! I use a pour over. Google it if you don’t know wink. While I wait for the coffee to filter, I start to read and I spend at least 10 minutes after my coffee is finally ready to continue reading. I just finished the book Why We Sleep by Dr. Matthew Walker. What an amazing book!
Next up I plan to read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. I noticed when I started reading in my morning routine last year, I was lucky to read five or six pages. But now that I have a flow, I can knock out 20 pages no problem. Even better, on my best days, I clean the kitchen and get my chores done the night before.
